View All NewsWe pray that you will be moved to pledge and fulfill your financial commitment to our church this year. We also pray that God will bless our efforts and multiply your gifts as He uses each of us to expand His Kingdom.
Buncombe Street Methodist Church was founded in 1834. Nearly 100 years later, in 1932, a young man named A.M. (Doc) Moseley joined Buncombe Street Methodist Church. After thirty plus years of membership, he published a book entitled “The Buncombe Street Methodist Story”. The book is an inspiring history of the efforts and sacrifices of the many leaders and members who came before us in their desire to serve God and the community. Our history puts in perspective how blessed we are to be members of the church that has been the preeminent Methodist Church in Greenville for 189 years. As chronicled in the “Buncombe Street Methodist Story”, wars, pandemics, civil unrest, politics, economic recession, depression, and denominational changes are among the challenges that our forebears faced. God has blessed Buncombe Street over the years by providing leaders and dedicated members who overcame the challenges faced by the church. The events of recent years have created several similar challenges. The Covid-19 shutdown resulted in the permanent loss of church members. The process of discerning whether to remain in the UMC resulted in a significant drop in financial giving and the additional loss of both church and staff members.
God has been with us through all the church’s challenges in our history. God is with us now. Our church is growing. We are experiencing a revival. God has truly blessed us. In turn, it is now time for each of us to bless God with our generous giving. Together we have the privilege of writing the “Next Chapter” in the history of Buncombe Street Methodist Church. We each have the resources. Let’s give back to God generously! Let’s bring Him the first fruits of our labor! Let’s tithe and give gifts beyond what is needed to meet the goals of our church. Our giving will determine how far we can go as a body to advance His earthly kingdom.
As we shape the future of our church, there are three immediate areas of giving that are critical to the attainment of the goals and vision of the church. They are the Operating Fund, the Next Chapter Fund, and Missions Fund.
Operating Fund
The money given to the operating fund is used to fund salaries, utilities, programs, supplies, insurance, computers, furniture, and many other expenses related to running the church. Generous giving to the operating fund allows us to invest in programs and ministries that enable the church to develop opportunities, attract new members, and expand our outreach to the community.
Next Chapter Fund
The initial goal of the Next Chapter fund is to pay off the money borrowed by the church to leave the UMC. After the debt is extinguished, the fund will be used in a variety of ways to improve the church.
Missions Fund
The Missions fund is a separate fund dedicated to the missions efforts at the church. We support both local and international missions.
You can pledge online, drop your pledge card off at the church, or mail it to the church at 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601. If pledging directly on Realm (linked below), under the ‘Giving’ tab, select the ‘+Pledge’ button and fill in your information.
Commit a Financial Pledge (digital form)
In addition to financial giving, we want you to be in prayer and look for ways to serve His church. While we aren’t specifically asking for you to physically fill out your time and talents commitment for 2024, we want to invite you to visit our “Service Wall” located on the hallway between the church office and the main sanctuary lobby. We challenge you to fill out one or two cards on this wall in the upcoming year. This is a great place to get plugged in and see all the varying levels of how you can serve.
